Most of the roof problems on this site can wait a season without getting materially worse. A sagging roof is not one of them. A rough way to judge scale before anyone gives you an opinion

Before calling anyone, it helps to have a sense of how significant the dip actually is, so a contractor's assessment can be checked against what you are seeing rather than taken on faith. A ridge line sag means one or more of those members is not.

In Macomb County's housing stock, three situations show up again and again. The first is age and load: older homes, particularly ranches with long unsupported rafter spans, were sometimes framed to standards that have since been tightened, and decades of snow load cycles can slowly deflect an undersized ridge board or rafter set that was marginal from day one. The second is modification: rafters or truss webs cut for a skylight, a whole-house fan, attic storage, or a remodeled ceiling line, without adding the engineered support that cutting a structural member requires, weaken the system in exactly the way that produces a slow, progressive sag. The tell from the attic is straightforward: a ridge line sag shows as visible bowing or deflection in the rafters or truss chords themselves, sometimes with daylight-visible gaps opening at connection points, and sometimes with cracking at a cut or a knot under stress. Rafters and trusses do not fail the same way

It matters which system is overhead, because the two behave very differently when something goes wrong. A stick-framed rafter roof is a series of individual members, each one carrying its own share of the load, and a single weak or damaged rafter tends to sag on its own without necessarily pulling its neighbors down with it, which is part of why sistering one rafter is often a contained fix. An engineered truss roof is different: each truss is a single triangulated unit where the top chords, bottom chord, and interior webs all work together, and every member is sized assuming the others are intact. Cutting or removing a single web member from a truss, something homeowners sometimes do to open up attic storage or run ductwork, can compromise the whole truss's capacity even though nothing looks obviously wrong from a casual glance. 04 /Dished planes: when the deck, not the framing, has failed

A shallow bowl or wave between two rafters, on a roof plane that is otherwise straight along the ridge and eaves, points somewhere different: the sheathing itself. Roof decking is a thin structural skin, typically OSB or plywood, spanning between rafters, and it depends on staying dry and intact to hold a flat plane across that span. When it does not, the deck between two framing members can sag downward even though the rafters on either side of it are perfectly sound.

The most common driver is sustained moisture: a slow roof leak that has been wetting one section of deck for months or years without a visible interior stain yet, or attic condensation from inadequate ventilation soaking the underside of the sheathing over repeated winters. Both processes delaminate the plies in plywood or break down the resin bond in OSB, and a panel that has lost its structural stiffness will dish under its own weight and any snow load on top of it, independent of what the rafters underneath are doing. Separating these three patterns correctly takes two vantage points, not one. 07 /Repair, reinforcement, or engineer: which call is this

The honest answer depends entirely on which of the three patterns is in play, and being straight about that distinction is part of the job. A localized dip confirmed to be contained deck and possibly minor rafter rot, with no framing distortion beyond that one spot, is squarely a roofing repair: cut out the bad wood, replace it, correct the flashing detail that caused it, and reroof over sound material.
